The 82-bed Skilled Care Renovations at Sunnyside Retirement Community are nearing completion. This project involved extensive renovations on two-floor levels in order to transform this older facility from an institutional layout and fell, to a much warmer home/resort-like feel. The cafeterias were transformed into “Cafes”, complete with elegant décor and Menu Boards. The old Nurses Station (where people would always gather) is gone and in its place are a comfortable Living Room and Den, complete with a double-sided fireplace, water feature, sitting areas, and warm décor. The Resident Rooms were completely renovated so that they now have tasteful colors, trim, fixtures, and furnishings. Heating, cooling, lighting, and electrical systems were all updated.
Perhaps most impressive, however, is how the project was phased in 4 to 6-room segments. This allowed the current operations to continue without a drop-off of necessary income for the facility. Very close coordination with the staff was necessary to accomplish this through weekly meetings on-site.
